Online fraud is now spreading rapidly in the name of the viral “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP), prompting police departments to issue urgent warnings to the public. What started as a satirical social media trend has now become a tool for cyber criminals targeting unsuspecting users through fake links and phishing scams.
The “Cockroach Janata Party” recently gained massive popularity on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X, especially among young people. The trend, which symbolically reflects youth frustration over unemployment and the system, attracted millions of followers within a short period. However, cyber fraudsters are now taking advantage of this online craze to trap users.
According to police warnings, scammers are sending fake messages through WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and SMS with attractive slogans such as “Join Cockroach Janata Party” or “The country is calling for change.” These messages often include suspicious links designed to steal personal information. Authorities have clarified that these are phishing links, and clicking on them can immediately compromise a user’s mobile phone and banking data.
Police officials explained that once a person clicks the fraudulent link, hackers can gain access to sensitive information stored on the device, including passwords, banking details, OTPs, and personal data. Cyber criminals may then misuse this information to transfer money from bank accounts or even take loans in the victim’s name.
To spread awareness, police departments have shared advisory videos on their official social media pages. In one such video, officers explained how a simple mistake driven by curiosity or emotion can result in heavy financial losses. Authorities are urging citizens, especially young social media users, to avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links shared online.
Cyber experts also recommend enabling two-factor authentication, avoiding unknown downloads, and verifying links before opening them. If any suspicious message related to the “Cockroach Janata Party” or similar viral campaigns appears on your phone, officials advise deleting it immediately and reporting it to cybercrime authorities.
Police have stressed that people should not allow social media trends or viral movements to cloud their judgment. A single careless click can lead to hacked devices, emptied bank accounts, and serious financial trouble. Citizens are being encouraged to stay alert, remain cautious online, and prioritize digital safety over internet hype.
