CJP Breaks Instagram Records, Surpasses BJP and Congress in Days
A new online political satire trend called the “Cockroach Janta Party” has gone viral on social media, gaining massive attention within just a few days. What started as a humorous and sarcastic response to a reported controversial remark by Chief Justice Suryakant has quickly turned into one of the fastest-growing digital movements on Instagram. According to reports, the trend began after claims circulated on 15 May that the Chief Justice had allegedly made a comparison involving unemployed youth and “cockroaches” during a court hearing. However, a clarification was later issued, stating that such remarks were misinterpreted or not made in the way they were originally reported. Despite the clarification, the controversy had already gained traction online and sparked widespread reactions. In response to this, a satirical online group named “Cockroach Janta Party” was created. It presents itself as a humorous political “party” representing frustration, sarcasm, and dissatisfaction among young people. The group’s tagline—“Voice of the lazy and unemployed”—highlights its ironic and comedic nature rather than a serious political agenda. It is not a registered political party and has no official recognition from the Election Commission. The Instagram account behind this movement reportedly gained over 1.1 crore followers within just five to six days. At one point, it even surpassed the official Instagram presence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has around 87 lakh followers. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress reportedly has around 1.33 crore followers. The rapid growth of the account has been widely discussed as an example of how meme culture and political satire can quickly spread among younger audiences online. The movement was started by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old digital creator from Maharashtra. He previously worked as a volunteer with the Aam Aadmi Party’s social media team between 2020 and 2023. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Relations at Boston University in the United States. Dipke reportedly launched the initiative by sharing a Google Form on X (formerly Twitter) on 16 May, inviting people to join the satirical “party.” The creators describe membership as intentionally humorous, with informal “eligibility criteria” such as being unemployed, being lazy, staying active online, and having the ability to express frustration digitally. These elements are meant to reflect internet humor rather than any real political structure. Overall, the “Cockroach Janta Party” has become a viral internet phenomenon that blends political commentary with meme culture. It highlights how quickly online audiences can mobilize around humor, satire, and controversial topics, especially when they intersect with public figures and sensitive statements.
