Oath Ceremony in Tamil Nadu Takes Political Turn Over Rahul Gandhi Slogans
After returning to power in Tamil Nadu after nearly six decades, Congress leaders and MLAs appeared visibly enthusiastic during the swearing-in ceremony of the new coalition government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The excitement became a major talking point when Congress MLA and Legislative Party leader S. Rajesh Kumar raised political slogans while taking the oath as minister. During the ceremony, Rajesh Kumar shouted slogans praising senior Congress leaders, including “Long Live Kamaraj,” “Long Live Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi,” and “Long Live Rahul Gandhi.” His slogans interrupted the formal oath proceedings, prompting Tamil Nadu Governor Governor of Tamil Nadu to step in with a light-hearted but firm remark, saying, “This is not part of your oath.” The comment drew smiles from those present, including Rajesh Kumar himself, who then completed the official formalities and signed the oath document. The incident quickly gained attention as it reflected the high spirits within the Congress party after its return to a position of power in Tamil Nadu politics following 59 years. Congress is part of the alliance government formed under Vijay’s leadership, and two Congress MLAs were included in the newly expanded cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony also highlighted the growing influence of Vijay’s party, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). Several MLAs from the party expressed loyalty and admiration toward Vijay during the event. TVK MLA A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban, after taking oath, looked toward the Chief Minister and chanted, “Vaazhga Thalaivar, Valarga Tamil,” meaning “Long live the leader, may Tamils prosper.” The cabinet expansion saw 23 MLAs sworn in as ministers, marking an important political moment for the new coalition government in Tamil Nadu. While the slogan-shouting created a brief interruption, it also showcased the enthusiasm and celebratory mood among party members as the new administration officially began its tenure.
