In a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a stunning batting display to defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a huge margin, although RCB still managed to secure a crucial top-two finish in the points table.
After winning the toss, SRH captain Pat Cummins elected to bat first, and the decision proved perfect. SRH’s aggressive batting lineup dominated from the beginning, piling up a massive 255/4 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 79 runs, while Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen added quick runs to put RCB’s bowling attack under pressure throughout the innings.
RCB’s bowlers struggled badly on a batting-friendly pitch. Experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a rare off day, conceding heavily without taking a wicket. Even star fast bowler Josh Hazlewood failed to stop the run flow as SRH continued attacking in the death overs.
Chasing a gigantic target of 256, RCB started aggressively. Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer provided a fast start, with Venkatesh smashing boundaries and sixes during the powerplay. Kohli also looked in good touch and moved closer to another IPL record. However, SRH struck back with timely wickets. Venkatesh was dismissed after a fiery cameo, and Kohli soon followed after scoring important runs during the chase.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya then focused on ensuring their team reached the required score to secure a top-two playoff finish rather than attempting an impossible chase. Their partnership helped RCB cross the necessary qualification mark despite falling far behind the actual target.
Although SRH registered a dominant victory and showcased one of the most destructive batting performances of the season, the result was not enough to improve their net run rate sufficiently for a top-two finish. Meanwhile, RCB celebrated qualification to the top two despite the defeat, thanks to their superior points tally and net run rate advantage.
