Rising fuel prices have once again added to the burden on people living in Delhi-NCR. After a fresh hike in CNG prices, petrol and diesel rates have also increased, marking the third fuel price revision in less than 10 days. The repeated increase in fuel costs is expected to impact transportation expenses and household budgets across the region.
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the price of CNG by ₹1 per kilogram. With the new rates in effect, CNG in Delhi now costs ₹81.09 per kg, compared to the earlier price of ₹80.09 per kg. This is the third increase in CNG prices within just 10 days. Earlier, on May 15, IGL had raised CNG prices by ₹2 per kg, followed by another ₹1 per kg increase on May 17.
Soon after the CNG price revision, oil marketing companies also announced another hike in petrol and diesel prices. Petrol prices were increased by 87 paise per litre, while diesel became costlier by 91 paise per litre. According to industry sources, the price of petrol in Delhi has now gone up from ₹98.64 to ₹99.51 per litre. Diesel prices have also risen from ₹91.58 to ₹92.49 per litre.
This latest revision marks the third fuel price hike in less than two weeks. Earlier on May 15, petrol and diesel prices were raised by ₹3 per litre. Another increase of around 90 paise per litre followed on May 19. With the latest hike, petrol and diesel prices have risen by nearly ₹5 per litre overall during this short period.
Experts believe the rising tensions and ongoing conflict in West Asia are pushing up global crude oil and energy prices. The impact of higher international oil prices is now being felt in the domestic market as government-run oil companies gradually pass the increased costs on to consumers.
The continuous rise in fuel prices is likely to affect daily commuters, transport operators, and businesses that rely heavily on fuel. Higher fuel costs could also lead to increased prices of essential goods and services, further adding to inflation concerns. For many households already dealing with rising living expenses, the repeated hikes in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices have become a major financial challenge.
