The property registration system in Delhi is set to undergo a major transformation as the government led by Rekha Gupta prepares to introduce a more modern, transparent, and citizen-friendly process. The initiative aims to improve services at sub-registrar offices and make property registration easier, faster, and free from unnecessary complications for the public.
According to government plans, the existing system will be upgraded with the help of advanced technology and improved infrastructure. The primary objective is to reduce delays, curb corruption, and eliminate the dependence of citizens on middlemen or agents for property-related work. Officials believe that digitization and better management can significantly improve the overall experience for people visiting registration offices.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials to review the proposed reforms. During the meeting, several technology companies presented ideas and solutions that could help modernize the system. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government wants sub-registrar offices to function like professional service centers that provide smooth and timely services to citizens without harassment or long waiting periods.
Under the proposed reforms, sub-registrar offices may be redesigned on the lines of Passport Seva Kendras. These offices are expected to include air-conditioned waiting halls, digital help desks, token systems, live application tracking, clean washrooms, and drinking water facilities. The aim is to create a comfortable and organized environment for visitors while reducing overcrowding and confusion.
The government is also considering the use of modern digital technologies to strengthen transparency and security in property registration. Features such as online appointment booking, digital document verification, and real-time application status updates are likely to be introduced. In addition, advanced technologies like AI-based face verification, blockchain-backed security systems, and digital record management may be implemented to prevent fraud, secure property documents, and reduce disputes related to ownership.
Officials say these reforms will not only improve public convenience but also help prevent revenue leakage for the government. By making the process more transparent and digital, authorities hope to remove the role of middlemen entirely and build a system where citizens can complete most procedures independently and efficiently.
